JATECH GAME DEVELOPMENT PRESENTS

A Retro Future That Never Existed.

JATECH GAME DEVELOPMENT

OLD-SCHOOL GAMEPLAY.
BEEFED-UP RETRO GRAPHICS.

Jatech Game Development is the game development division of Jatech Holding, based in Akershus, Norway. We make games with a simple philosophy: gameplay comes first.

We grew up with games that didn't need enormous worlds, endless upgrade trees or the latest graphics card to keep us playing. They had great mechanics, immediate controls and that slightly fuzzy retro feeling.

We build on that spirit with more polygons, smoother movement, bigger worlds and modern effects — while keeping the simplicity and character that made those games fun in the first place.

There are millions of perfectly good laptops sitting in cupboards because they're no longer considered gaming machines. We rather like the idea of giving some of them a reason to come back out.

OUR FIRST GAME

A fast, feel-good arcade game built around exploration, combat, high scores and the joy of flying through a colourful low-poly world.

Eight worlds, dynamic weather, drones, bombers, Motherships and an endless Simulation Mode — all running on our own RetroMesh engine.

THE ENGINE BEHIND OMEGA

“Curiosity got me started.
Stubbornness kept me going.”

RetroMesh didn't start because the world needed another 3D engine. It started because Jarle wanted to see how far he could take one built from scratch in C#/.NET.

Triangles became projection, shading, textures, lighting, physics, particles, weather and AI. At some point the experiment stopped being an experiment. It had become an engine — and then it needed a game.

THE DIVIDE

What if Sierra had today’s hardware?

The Divide is our take on the classic Sierra-style adventure game — built around exploration, characters, puzzles and story, but without the hardware limitations of the era that inspired it.

Like The Omega Strain, it follows the Jatech philosophy of old-school gameplay with beefed-up retro graphics.

We’re not trying to recreate an old game. We’re trying to imagine the game Sierra might have made if they had today’s hardware.

Currently in development. More to come.
